fun with aunt kris!

we LOVE when family comes to visit, and kristen's visit this week was awesome!!! the boys loved having someone new to pay attention to them, and she soaked up every minute with her cute little nephews!

mads was a little shy at 1st and kept looking at kris like this while i was feeding him. it was pretty cute :) he warmed up to her in no time though and loved playing peek-a-boo and pulling her hair.

beckam loves watching "beckam movies" and kris couldn't resist the 18 times he asked her to watch himself quite the same as we do...

vday updates

believe it or not (and i have a hard time believing it), maddox is nearly 8 months old! i've been waiting for some pictures that my friend took to do a little update on our baby boy, but i'm ready now, so the pictures will follow soon!

mads has been working on crawling for a month or so now, rocking back and forth on his hands and knees and then just rolling to the destination of his choice when that doesn't work. it's pretty cute even though i'm happy that he hasn't quite figured it out yet!

we were playing with beckam back in his room the other day, and we heard whining from the living room, so we went to check it out and found this. haha i just can't figure out how he managed it, and he was pretty proud of his accomplishment!

mads is now sleeping 11 hours or so at night and loves eating any and everything! he has the most contagious smile and is a pretty happy boy when he isn't working on adding to his 2 bottom teeth that he's had since he was 4 1/2 months. he's such a people person and loves watching his brother play. he eats best for mom but loves dad to put him to sleep. we all think he looks like my brother, and he definitely has a different look than becks. also different than his older brother, he was just ounces off the 20lbs mark at 6 months and is beating beck's 10th percentile mark by a long shot! he's a tall, solid little man, but he's such a cuddly little monkey, and we just love every roll and smile to pieces!

here are a few pics from valentine's day. i've decided that i want to make holidays special in our house, so we left some hearts and a valentine on both boys' beds, and then we made pink heart pancakes this year!

beckam also got a new caillou book, and that along with the basketball chocolates were a hit! mads was just excited about something new to chew on :)

dust had to do a little price is right/minute to win it obstacle course to get his vday treats this year, and he totally killed the toilet paper challenge!

now for an update on the cutest 2 year old around! beckam is such a funny little man, and i just can't get over how fast he's growing up!

if you're not sure where beckam is, you can almost always bet on him ballin it up in his room or hiding somewhere waiting for you to find him. he LOVES hide n seek but hasn't quite figured out how to change up the hiding spot yet!

we got him a new hat the other day, and he's in love! he had to wear it to the hot tub the other day, and what goes better with the morning diaper time than a new hat and rain boots!

he's talking so much and always makes me laugh with his imagination and the things he comes up with. he's crazy attached to his mom and his house and his blanket and his many friends, and we love it! he's still scared of the snow and freaked out at the sight of a tiny black bug crawling on his table the other day, so we'll see how he does with the lizards and ginormous spiders and cockroaches waiting for us on statia! haha he's finally figured out the napping thing now that's he's over 2 years old, and he thought about potty training but decided he wasn't ready yet sadly. hopefully soon! anyway, there's a little update for y'all - enjoy!

statia

we are moving here!!!

you'd think i was joking, but i'm serious as salt. crazy eh!?! our flights are booked for may 3rd, and we will be living it up on the beach of sint eustatius for the next 20 months! let me go back a few weeks here.....

just over a month ago, we were watching grey's anatomy, and i randomly commented to dust that he would make a great doctor. i then continued to make sure that he knew that i would support him in anything he ever did and that i believed in him. it was really quite random, and i thought absolutely nothing of it at the time. little did i know, it resonated with dust, and he was on the phone with randal cooper a few days later. randal recently sold his chiropractic practice and is now attending medical school on statia (as we've come to call it around here).

from that moment on, there has been a lot of talking, praying, templing, researching, etc, and to make a long story short, we weighed the pros and cons and more importantly, paid attention to the little promptings and assurances that the Spirit offered, and dust withdrew from chiro school and starts medical school on may 9th! we're not sure which one of those little houses will be ours yet, but hopefully the details will keep falling into place for us :)

it has been a CRAZY little month to say the least! i feel like we've been on a roller coaster ride, and it seems to be slowing down, but i think i still might feel a little light headed. i'm scared of the spider/cockroach/strange animals stories. i'm not exactly looking forward to the crazy humid head. i think it's funny that you have to keep your gum in the fridge to keep it from going all gooey and sticky. i can't wait for the laid back island life. i'm a little worried about beckam's transition. i'm going to miss my portland life like crazy. i'm so proud of my husband. i'm sad to leave home for so long. i'm excited for this once in a life time little family adventure, and more than anything, i trust my husband and am so excited of the things he's going to learn and the excitement he feels about his future. i know people will think we're crazy - they already do, and i've even questioned our santiy once or twice, but we know this is the right move, and i'll always stand by dust, and i believe in him with all my heart!

this teeny tiny little island has mountains, a dormant volcano, some gorgeous beaches, an intriguing history and will soon become our home. it's the size of lethbridge with the population of raymond, and we can't wait to watch baby sea turtles hatch and get stuck behind a herd of goats on the way home from the market, and we're just very excited to leave our footprints in the sand on statia! wish us luck and come visit us anytime :)

90/10

there are so many influential people in my life - so so many actually, but there is one that i'd like to pay tribute to and thank from the bottom of my heart today, and her name is grandma moj around here :)

she is one of the most, if not the most, positive people i know. she is so incredibly happy and has a way of brightening your day like no one else. she has the best sense of humor, and i can't help but smile every time i talk to her on the phone, and i can't help but feel a little better about my day every time i'm with her. one of her favorite sayings is - it's only a good day if you make it a good day - and we have that quote hanging above our doorway to remind us to CHOOSE to be happy like she does. i love it!!! she makes me want to be a better person, and i look up to her more than she'll ever know.

she introduced a concept to me last time we were home, and i want to share it. it's worth the read, i promise. it's from stephen covey, and it's called the 90/10 principle. check it out.....

10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react. What does this mean? We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us. We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic. We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%. How? By your reaction.

You are eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You have no control over what just what happened. What happens when the next will be determined by how you react. You curse. You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup over. She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your spouse and criticize her for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs and change your shirt Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and get ready for school. She misses the bus. Your spouse must leave immediately for work. You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. Because you are late, you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30 mph speed limit. After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away, you arrive at school. Your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye. After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse. You look forward to coming home, When you arrive home, you find small wedge in your relationship with your spouse and daughter. Why? Because of how you reacted in the morning. Why did you have a bad day?

A) Did the coffee cause it?

B) Did your daughter cause it?

C) Did the policeman cause it?

D) Did you cause it?

The answer is "D".

You had no control over what happened with the coffee. How you reacted in those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day. Here is what could have and should have happened. Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say," It's ok honey, you just need, to be more careful next time". Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your briefcase, you come back down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on how good the day you are having. Notice the difference? Two different scenarios.

Both started the same.

Both ended different.

Why? Because of how you REACTED. You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens. The other 90% was determined by your reaction.

there have been many times that i've repeated "90/10" in my head or out loud to remind myself that it's my reaction that will decide the outcome of various situations, and it really does help! anyway, thank you so much to such an amazing woman, mother in law, friend, and person for teaching me and showing me how to be truly happy. love you grandma moj!
