hieroglyphic trail

i saw a friend's instagram pic of them at the top of hieroglyphic trail (just outside of phoenix or mesa or somewhere not too far from us!), and it looked awesome!!! so, we decided to give it a try one hot arizona day :)

we saddled up the kids and headed off! the scenery was a little different than we're used to - cactuses instead of pine trees and little cactus flowers instead of bluebells and cockle shells (i don't really know if we'd see that in the rockies but it sounded good!), but it was still beautiful!

there was a little complaining, but it was a hot day and the cactuses don't really provide the shade that our pine tress do, so we were all ready to get to the top - which was supposed to be a little lake and somewhere to have a little lunch and take a load off......

well, the hieroglyphics were cool at least! haha the swampy little pool of water below was the supposed lake and you're looking at the most comfortable rock for our bite to eat!

it was still fun though, and i'm so glad we made some cactus loving az memories with our little people!

and with eric and cara too :) thankfully, they took the trek with us! love our lotts!

it was really fun to take in some of az outside of our little neighborhood, and we all had a blast! thankfully, quinc saved her heat exhaustion puke for the tile floor at home too!

making memories!
